Historically, national
strategy training was held in Nasca, Peru in November or December each
year. To better accommodate national participants, we are
expanding the training to several regional events that will hopefully
allow for greater participation.
The
stateside REAPartners are encouraged to promote this event among their
leaders
and potential leaders. We strongly encourage them
not to provide, offer or promise any financial assistance
to attend, thus ensuring that those who really want to be
there will come and will be there for the right reasons. The participants are told to get to
the training site by their own means where
they are provided adequate housing and meals, plus the materials
for the training at no cost. There is available assistance for their
return trip home, if needed.
Attendees are
given the opportunity to share in the expenses by bringing potatoes,
corn, rice, etc., as well as contribute monetarily.
We do not take up an offering but we do provide a box that is placed in
the center of the meeting area called the "arca de socorro" or
"ark of help". Last year over $100 was given and only
one
person asked for help. The rest of the funds were given to the
host church to
cover expenses.
The regional areas selected
for the events are Caņete (1st quarter), Cusco (2nd quarter), Lampa (3rd
quarter), and Puquio (4th quarter).
The
material that is covered is almost identical to that which is offered in
Atlanta, but in Spanish.
Before leaving
to return to their respective homes and fields of service, the
participants formalize a strategy for reaching their area and present it
to the entire group. In years past, many new small groups (and potential
house churches) were begun in the first months following the
training.
The
trainers are IMB South America regional staff.
